I am very passionate about what I do as I witness the positive effects it has on patients, therefore it's hard not to be completely in awe of such a powerful system of medicine.  That's not to dismiss the revolutionary advancement of western medicine over the years as without it life for a lot of people around the world would simply not be possible!

If we go back 2000 years different cultures around the globe had their own unique way of dealing with illness using traditional methods whilst refining and experimenting with current techniques helping to shape modern western medicine as we know it today.  Alternative and modern medicine sat side by side for many years each with its limits therefore filling in the gaps one may have left.

Along the way traditional forms of medicine have been lost to the excitement and wonder of modern techniques, but the tables are turning again and traditional forms like acupuncture have been given the recognition much deserved.  There are many articles on the internet advocating its efficacy through RCT (Randomised Control Trials) or public and influential figures endorsing the benefits towards a particular condition.

In May 2009 NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) issued guidelines recommending that acupuncture be made available on the NHS for Chronic Lower Back Pain.  RCT's have also proved it's worthiness in treating IVF, migraines/headaches, IBS, arthritis of the knee and hip, neck pain, nausea/vomiting and more.  The future for me is seeing the two forms of medicine combining forces more vocally and visually in the public health sector opening the door to its potential to everyone through its continuing relationship with the BAcC (British Acupuncture Council).  This will improve the efficacy of acupuncture two fold - eradicate its current confines in private practice allowing new advancements in theory and application, whilst enabling the highly qualified practitioners possible access to a wider range of conditions.  Take the pressure off local doctors surgeries and NHS waiting lists by treating conditions that western medicine can only manage through medication or have found no reasonable explanation for.

I attend Continued Professional Development (CPD) workshops to supplement my knowledge and obtain new skills to enhance the growing practice, as well as regular study workshops.  I will be joining efforts made by fellow colleagues and the BAcC to highlight the efficacy of acupuncture in treating a wide range of conditions, as well as promoting the continuing awareness of acupuncture to treat alongside conditions traditionally left to western medical care.

All information discussed during treatment is highly confidential; I am committed to upholding the patient / practitioner confidentiality laws laid out in the BAcC code of practice.  Should I require a consultation from a colleague during treatment then permission will be obtained in the first instance.  Patient files are kept locked at all times and for a period of 10 years once treatment has ceased.
